Hackers are targeting smart home devices

Smart home devices are becoming another avenue for hackers to spy on you.

More and more devices allow you to do everything from turn on the lights, to turn down the thermostat. But experts say that convenience can come at a cost. Hackers are tapping into vulnerabilities in the software to get access to your home network.

You can protect yourself by making sure your home router is secure. Install updates on your device as soon as they become available. They often include patches for any vulnerabilities.

If you have a new smart home device on your wish list this year, make sure you change the default password as soon as you set it up and turn off any features you're not using.
