There's still a whole lot of summer left before the kids go back to school. And a road trip to a theme park is a great way for both the kids and adults to have a blast before summer ends.
While many Michigan families love theme parks like Michigan Adventure and Cedar Point, there are a whole host of parks across the country families can explore.
Family Vacation Critic announced their top picks for 2017:
Cedar Point is home of the thrill rides. And right now, the amusement park in Sandusky, Ohio is gearing up to announce a big new attraction that will debut in 2018. The new attraction is still a secret for now. But rumors about what it could be are swirling. The coaster will be replacing the Mean Streak. It is located in FrontierTown. Mum is the word for now from Cedar Point. The new attraction will be unveiled on August 16.
Dollywood is located in the heart of the Smoky Mountains in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. The theme park boasts of coasters like Wild Eagle- the first wing coaster in the country.
Riders are high enough to have a birds' eye view. New this season is Drop line. It lifts people more than 20 stories above Timber Canyon providing people with an awesome view of the Great Smoky Mountains. But that is just for a second- thrill seekers are plummeted to the ground in seconds.
Also new this season: Whistle Punk Chaster: a junior coaster for children. It includes a whole lot of exciting twists and turns. Dollywood also features nightly fireworks for the summer season, and the popular The Gazillion Bubbles Show.
Visitors to Dollywood can cool off at Splash Country. New this year to the water park is TailSpin Racer, a five-story water slide that allows six people to race each other. "TailSpin Racer is our first new attraction since we opened our water coaster, RiverRush," explained Dollywood's Splash Country General Manager Janet Dawson. "This is something our guests have been asking for and we are thrilled that we're delivering a family slide that gives six people the chance to race at the same time."
Located in Hershey, Pennsylvania. It includes 13 roller coasters. The Sooperdooperlooper holds the title as the first looping coaster on the East Coast.
Located in Mason, Ohio. The park boasts of the world's longest wooden roller coaster "Beast". Mystic Timbers was unveiled this spring and is King Island's 16th roller coaster. The 109-foot-tall coaster travels through a wooded terrain along 3,265 feet of track at speeds up to 53 mph.
Windseeker is another popular attraction and features a 301-foot-tall tower swing ride. Riders can cool off in Soak City.
Other popular amusement parks for families include Silver Dollar City in Branson, Missouri, Six Flags parks nationwide, and Universal Studios Islands of Adventure in Orlando Florida, and Universal Studios in Orlando and Hollywood.
