"I'm Tom Barrett and I'm proud to serve you and represent you in Lansing. I live in Potterville with my wife Ashley, and our two children Patrick, who is 3 and Eleanora who is 2. We are expecting our third child in the spring. My background is mostly in the Military, where I have served for the last 16 years. I am still in the Army par-time as a helicopter pilot, and I have logged more than 200 flight hours since you elected me as your state representative. I ran for office two years ago because Michigan had the second highest veteran unemployment rate in the entire country and I was tired of seeing my battle buddies struggle to find opportunities back home. I am now the only Iraq war veteran in the Michigan House of Representatives, and I've just had my fifth veteran bill signed into law. I am proud of my accomplishments but we still have a lot of work left to do for our veterans. My other priorities include dedicating more money to roads and infrastructure, repealing the senior pension tax, protecting classroom dollars in the state budget, and equalizing per-pupil funding so that our kids in Eaton County receive the same educational opportunity as kids anywhere else in Michigan. I am also advocating for greater access to mental health services, and lower auto insurance rates. I've voted to balance our state budget the last two years, and I will continue to make the tough decisions necessary to keep our economy moving forward so that Michigan can be home to more jobs with bigger paychecks. I hope that I am someone you can be proud to vote for November 8th I never take your vote for granted. Thank you for your consideration."
