LANSING, Mich. (WILX) -- The BWL has approved a rate hike on electric, water and steam rates for the next three years, beginning February of 2018. If the increase is passed, residential electric rates would spike by 3.9% in the years 2018, 2019 and 2020.
Water rates will bump up by 5.5% for 2018, and 7.5% in 2018 and 2019. Steam customers will see increases of 5.5% in 2018, and 7.9% in 2019 and 2020.
BWL says the rate hikes are needed to pay for infrastructure improvements and meet environmental commitments.
The new rates would go into effect on February 1, 2018, February 1, 2019 and February 1, 2020. The last BWL rate increase went into effect on November 1, 2014.
