Joe Sam is an original Cajun, a native of Opelousas Louisiana not far from New Orleans and he joined News 10 in September 2017.
Joe attended McNesse State University in Lake Charles, LA before transferring to Southern University A&M college in Baton Rouge, LA where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Mass Communications. Joe’s initial exposure to the world of TV news was as a News Content Specialist with a WAFB. Joe’s success in his course of study coupled with his infectious personality landed him a position as the Radio Personality at Southern University, an internship at Fox8 New Orleans and Max94.1. Subsequently, he accepted a position in Lafayette, LA as a Newscast Editor where he learned the art of creating artistic visuals and eye-catching graphics. After working as a Producer and Reporter with a local news station, it was evident that Joe was a natural story-teller. It only took a short time in front of the camera before Joe moved to Florida to work as the Morning Anchor/Reporter for ABC27.
Joe’s love for his community catapulted his decision to become the Communications Director for CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates). This decision was provoked by the tragic death of his two-year old nephew in 2011 who was a victim of child abuse. Near and dear to his heart, Joe was determined to use all he had to advocate for abused and neglected foster children to help spread awareness about child abuse and to pay tribute to his deceased loved one. Throughout his career, Joe has earned several awards, including Top News Anchor by the Acadiana Profile organization and Best Morning Show by the Louisiana Association of Broadcasters. Joe is also a proud member of Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity Incorporated, the National Association of Black Journalists, NAACP, and National Society of Leadership and Success. When he's not on air, Joe enjoys volunteering at local nonprofit organizations, working out, cooking cajun and creole dishes, performing slam poetry, playing video games, and entertaining family and friends.
