Hundreds of people lined the streets in downtown after picking out their perfect spot to watch the Lansing Fourth of July parade.

"We got here at 10:30 am. This is our third year and this is our regular spot. We try to find the shade," said Dave Wright, who lives in Lansing.

Local businesses and organizations marched, drove, and danced down the streets spreading patriotic cheer.

"We like the fancy cars, watching them with the hydrolics and doors and everything," said Virginia McNamara, who lives in Lansing.

"The candy ones!" blurted little Tabitha sitting on her father, Dave Wright's, lap. "Those are fun, aren't they?" said Wright smiling at Tabitha. "But we liked the different military ones definitely."

But parade-goers say they hold on to the importance of Independence Day.

"It's about freedom. We fought for something and we got it," said U.S. Air Force Veteran Andy Tocarchick.

"It's about taking a day where no matter what your politics are you can celebrate America. You can celebrate the fact that we are in a country where we can speak our mind and not have to worry about that," said Mayor Virg Bernero.

Along with the freedom Independence Day represents, parade-goers say the Fourth of July is also about spending time with family.

"Pretty much today is a laid-back day to enjoy family and friends," said Latonya Turner, who live in Lansing.

"It's important. It's an American style," said Tocarchick.

A red, white, and blue style that never gets old.
