"Trees for Troops" hosted by Peacock Road Tree Farm
Nov 10, 2009 - Dec 6, 2009
The Peacock Road Tree Farm, 11854 Peacock Rd., Laingsburg (2 miles north of Clark Rd. - look for the signs!)
The owners of The Peacock Road Tree Farm in rural Laingsburg are gearing up for another year of participation in a program of national pride. They were chosen again this year to be a staging site for the 2009 "Trees for Troops" effort, a nationwide program which will provide more than 15,000 real Christmas trees to military families across the United States and overseas.
The program "Trees for Troops" is a collaborative effort between the non-profit organization Christmas SPIRIT Foundation, FedEx and Christmas Tree Farm Organizations around the nation.
It works this way: Individuals, families, church groups, school groups, etc. can "sponsor" fresh cut trees from The Peacock Road Tree Farm for only $25 each to be distributed. They can include a greeting card with a personal message or sentiment that they might like to convey to a military family, which will be tied to the tree. Trees can be purchased now through Dec. 6th, and will be shipped on Dec. 7th to their destinations at the designated military bases.
Trees for Troops" began in 2005 when FedEx, who donates the shipping of the trees, and the Christmas SPIRIT Foundation, delivered nearly 12,000 trees to military families at 25 bases in 17 countries. This year, the two organizations, with the help of consumers and participating Christmas tree farms, plan to deliver 15,000-17,000 trees!
"This is a great way for people to show their support and compassion, by providing a gift to the families who are making a sacrifice, and thereby giving the gift of security to the people of our country," says Ed Carpenter, owner of The Peacock Road Tree Farm.
