I haven't written a good blog in a while. I mean, it's been a long time. Never followed up on my Alaska trip and haven't been all over trying to come up with something every day.
I was trying to figure out when and why one day, when Jeff, our executive producer, said, "Facebook, dude."
Have you noticed a lot of people who blogged now just put their blogs on FB in the form of a 'note'? The lazy ones settle for just status updates. The really lazy ones opt for Twitter.
I've written a few notes on FB, but usually copied them to this blog, at least when it was appropriate to do so. Jeff, a former blogging machine with a dedicated following, switched to the notes, but now hardly does that anymore. Of course, he has a newborn at home and that will suck the time and the will for much else other than making sure the kid doesn't die on your watch.
For me, I haven't written any notes on FB much anymore and I still try to figure out why, because I love writing and sharing my travails with you guys. I guess it's because of a few things. I'm doing a lot more FB and Twitter for the newscast that by the time I do my story for the 6, tape the endless teases, grab dinner and then write for the 11-- there's just no time left for a blog post of any quality. Also, privately things are very busy as my kids keep getting older. Lastly, the novelty wore off a little. I still enjoy posting something interesting, but I'm not allowed to post video clips anymore because of legal concerns with corporate, which kind of takes a bit of the fun out. I always want to post a funny piece of video that I've seen somewhere, but now I can't.*
Overall, it's not just Jeff and me, it's a lot of people. Have you noticed a drop-off in blogs and what do you think about it? Were they just a fad and will eventually go away like Myspace and hopefully Twitter?
