I recently came across some comments inside our website that were not approved for publication.  Between you and me, I like to approve comments that other people have rejected (as long as they're not vulgar), especially if they're critical of me.  I found a couple gems the other day.  You can find this comment in thrice under Tim Staudt's blog post titled "Texas Tech in Disarray."  It's from Paul in Grass Lake:

"Not to go off-topic here, but I think Tim should walk if WILX ever tries to pair him with Jason Colthorpe again. It's bad enough WILX viewers have to be subjected to Jason's rude and obnoxious behavior during the regular newscast; to have to endure him during a Tim Staudt sports special constitutes cruel and unusual punishment. WILX, MAKE IT STOP!!!"

First, Paul in Grass Lake probably posted this three times because nobody approved it and he was waiting to see it.  But since Paul in Grass Lake can't get the spelling of my name right, I'm going to assume he just doesn't understand how the "submit" button works.

Second, I'll give you obnoxious-- my 7th grade science teacher Mr. Nemcik would agree wholeheartedly with you there-- but show me rude.  And Tim would never "walk" because I'm the only one who laughs at his jokes.  I do Iike the "cruel and unusual punishment" line-- that's good.

Paul in Grass Lake also left this little gem under another post by the Dean:

"I'm serious...Jason is a tool."

Now that's just mean, man.  By the way, you leave this comment under a story titled "A Christmas Story" about a guy battling cancer and I'm rude and obnoxious?  Why don't you include "magnanimous" the next time you talk about me, Paul in Grass Lake.

Editor's note: Critical comments like this really don't bother me, so fire away!

Thanks Anne. First, my ring is too big and I've never had it re-sized. So in the winter it tends to fall off. Plus I lost some weight since we got married which makes it even more loose. I do wear the glasses most of the time now, but sometimes I just like to not have them on. I know-- weird.

Hi Jason, So glad to hear that your not thin skinned (re: comments above) But I have a question to ask. Please I am not a nut, but, I have noticed that some nights you wear your wedding ring and some nights you do not, I guess if it was my husband I would want to know why however I do assume your wife knows the reason and thats all that should matter and important. Your glasses also most nights yes but a few are a no. Personally, I think you look better with them on, sort of adds character they also have a tendency to make your eyes twinkle.........now is that good enough to make you wear them every night? Both my husband and I love your news coverage, all do a great job ( we are orinally from the big..big city I think 10 has that and will continue to watch. Do me a favour and do try to discourage the channel from the commercials telling us what you HAVE reported, thats old news and deceiving we want to hear about what you WILL report Thanks for a great job Jason.

The advice on the Toyotas that run on was wrong. You should not turn the car off,but put it in neutral.

I think you're doing great. I haven't been as proud to watch local news, since Kathy Schmaltz and Jane Aldrich were at their peak of popularity. And that was partly because I found them attractive. People have to really look close to find the small things that don't fit your customary cheerfulness and helpfulness. Tim was the best in local sports, but he's a bit stodgy at times, and doesn't pair up well with your youthful spontaneity. I think sports gets too much local coverage. There are many more important things going on locally. But it's hard to get intelligent and constructive exploration of those issues. Too many people are biased and partisan. Some of this is due to downsizing in private organizations, government and communities. When the economy comes back, progress will happen. The extent to which attitudes improve, will probably depend on how fair and effective the growth is. Feather-bedding jobs and bloated spending won't keep us 'out of the soup'.
