I've run my share of 5K's and even completed 10 miles in the Mint City 10-miler last month, but I'm nervous about Sunday. It's the Capitol City River Run and I'm doing the half-marathon-- 13.1 miles. I know I can do it, but a couple things have me uneasy.
I haven't trained as hard as I should have. Mostly it's because of some knee pain I've had since the first day of training. It went away a little while ago, but it came back today. A knee brace, some Aleve, and my new shoes should be good for that Sunday.
I'm also a tad nervous about my time. I ran the 10-miler in an hour 28 minutes which leaves me about a half hour to get the last 3.1 miles in. That will be cutting it close, because I run 5K's in about 25 minutes, but this will be the end of the race. My goal is to get in in under two hours.
I think I will do it. The weather will be nice and the run takes us through some of my favorite spots-- MSU, Hawk Island Park and back through downtown Lansing. So, when you wake up at 10 a.m. Sunday, pump your fist for me, because I'll have a half hour to get across the finish line.
