Driving While Intexticated

A sad observation and a scary true story.

Last week, I pulled up to the light at the corner of Edgewood and Pennsylvania about to get on the highway.  I looked over and saw a little girl about three or four looking out her window.  She sat high in her car seat and looked on top of the world as she surveyed things through her window that was half open.  She saw me and smiled.  I smiled back and waved.  That's when I looked in the front seat to see her mom (I assumed) smoking a cigarette with the smoke that drifted to the back seat.  I didn't judge, but my heart sank, because I knew the little girl would spend the rest of her life asking her mom not to smoke in the car and to quit altogether-- just like I did with my mom.

That's if she has a rest of her life.  In her other hand, the mom was texting on her cell phone.

Texting and smoking.  Nice parenting.

Texting while driving is pretty scary and I won't lie and say I've never done it, but I did recently vow to never do it again-- and I haven't.  We showed a PSA in one of our stories at 11 recently that should have scared the crap out of everyone who ever thought about texting while driving.  Now watch one more that I will be showing my daughters.
