Happy Anniversary... to me!

What a gift from the wife!

Friday I was off from work to celebrate my 10th wedding anniversary.  We were going down to the Brad Paisley/Dierks Bentley concert in Detroit with eight of our friends for the night.  The kids were staying at Julie's mom and dad's for the night and I was waiting for her to return around 4 p.m. when I saw a Red Jewel-colored GMC Acadia driver around the corner of our street.

"There's another one!" I thought. "That better not be someone in the neighborhood who just bought the car I really want."

I should tell you first, that I drive a Pontiac Montana mini-van-- or a "Mom"-tana as some of my friends call it.  I never envisioned myself driving it, but kind of shot myself in the foot when I got Julie a G-6 a couple years ago for her birthday and traded in my truck to do it.  I just thought I'd get to drive it enough where I wasn't always in the Montana.  I was wrong.

So, earlier this year we decided to get a new car and I just had to figure out what I wanted-- an Outlook, Enclave, Acadia, Traverse, Vue, Torrent, or whatever.  Eventually, I settled on the Acadia-- a red one.

The Red Acadia... I want you

So, you can imagine my disgust at the thought of seeing one turn my corner with one of my neighbors giggling all the way to his or her garage.

A couple seconds later, though, Julie walks in.

Julie: Hey.
Me: When did you get here?  You didn't just drive up in a red Acadia did you?
(Julie in stone-faced silence.)
Me: Did you see that Acadia?
Julie: (Dangling keys) Happy anniversary!

Sorry, I was a little excited

I went crazy and even smothered her with affection until she had to ask if I wanted to go see it.  Long story short-- I did, I drove it to the concert, slept in it, wrote it a love letter, and have to go to the window often to gaze into its eyes.

How was your weekend?
