Classic Late-Night Local News

A crew from Cleveland recently exposed the rest of us for not concentrating on our jobs.

Before we got the current weather set, the House of Weather, as I call it, we were always able to watch another TV in the WeatherLab.  Sometimes it wasn't on, sometimes Andy was watching Tom Skilling's weather on WGN, sometimes it was an eye on the competition, and you can bet everytime there was a big game on-- that's what we were watching.  I remember us watching the Pistons and Wings in the playoffs, MSU in the NCAA tournament-- any big game.  Sometimes it was a game the sports guys would need to know the score of so we would keep an eye on it until the end of the show for a score update.  Rarely, if ever do I remember a game ending dramatically that provoked anything more than a "Oh wow, he got the last out, Tigers win."  Staudt is still always classic calling for on-air updates from Andy-- that's about as animated as we get.  Until today, I don't think most news directors knew we sometimes were watching other programs during the news.  It was for work, after all.  It was.  Anyway, there's no doubt what's going on on TV news sets around the country anymore after this hilarious and awesome outburst from a news team in Cleveland when LeBron James hit a buzzer beater in Game 2 vs. Orlando.  This begins with the sports guy breaking the news to the others after Orlando hit a shot with one second left to take the lead.  Keep an eye out for the guy celebrating in the newsroom in the background on the right side of your screen.  Enjoy.
