Ladies and Gentlemen, Jason Colthorp...

Mocking some local notables-- including yours truly-- turned out to be hilarious.

"Did I tell you I used to be a wedding DJ, Carl?  Oh yeah.  I'd play those sweet ghetto jams.  Booty music... you know.  Welcome back to the news..."

That was the line delivered fabulously and funny by Robert Aultz tonight at the Woldumar Nature Center.  Robert was making fun of me.  Robert knows that I DJ'd countless weddings back in the day because he shadowed me at Channel 10 awhile back for a parody he wrote.  That's how he knows about the sweet ghetto jams that filled the dance floors like "Return of the Mack."  He incorporated that song into his performance Friday night as part of the "All-of-You Review" Children's Theatre production.  Sitting at a faux news desk before the "news" began, Robert called for the open music to the show and got Mark Morrison.  It was funny.  So was his haircut.  His mom told me beforehand that Robert cut his shaggy mane and he walked out with a spiky do I could be proud of.  His whole performance was hilarious down to the phone call he pretended to get from my wife during the news.  Robert, an Okemos High School student, delivered his lines with no script.  With perfect timing, waiting the perfect amount of time for the laughs.  And he did a great job of getting some big laughs at my expense and I was thoroughly impressed.  Not to mention I was probably laughing the loudest.

A number of other teens were part of the show that produced and performed parodies of people like Ingham County Prosecutor Stuart Dunnings.  The girl who put on that show was great too, often pulling extra bow ties out of her suit coat.  Lansing City Councilmember Kathie Dunbar, Jack Ebling, Jim Fordyce and Paula Cunningham were also mocked to perfection during the show.

The kids who participated in this charity event are very talented.  Whether they become actors or Saturday Night Live writers who knows, but it seems they have a great foundation with the Children's Theatre.  Keep your eyes peeled for the next one.  I mean, come on, Tim Staudt is just begging to be mocked.
