I stumbled upon something quite funny Sunday at the store that I figured I'd share with you.
I always use the U-Scan for checkout, because it's faster. When you start, it always asks if you want English or Spanish. Every now and then, I opt for Spanish, just for fun. Sunday, I had a bunch of bottle return slips after spending a half hour returning 350 bottles and cans from the winter. Bottle slips require employee assistance. Everything is in Spanish at this point, which is where the comedy began as the young male employee with the already blank stare approached and saw a screen reading "Ayuda de gerente requerida."
"Whoa."
My quick response of "I need a little help, por favor" was less than well received. The entertainment cost about five minutes of my time as the guy fumbled through screens while I annoyingly repeated some of the phrases that came up.
"Umm... gee. I think I need a--"
"Por favor entre en la contraseña, dude."
Eventually a manager had to come over and even she began laughing at what I had created. So the next time you want a cheap laugh, hit the Spanish button when you're buying booze or pseudoephedrine-- anything that needs store approval.
