A friend's 30th birthday dinner ended up at our house Saturday night, sans kids. Cards and spirits quickly gave way to us breaking out one of the kids' Christmas presents-- Rock Band. Is that wrong?
If it is, I don't wanna be right. The 30-something Guitar Heroes rocked the house with the added drums, guitars and microphone. My wife, a Guitar Hero god, is also an excellent singer, proving so on an awesome array of new rock songs like, "Wanted Dead or Alive," "Should I Stay or Should I Go," and "Gimme Shelter." But the drums are where it's at. Everybody is a fan of that... singing, not so much. Let's just say that was the comic relief for the night. Although, I would like it noted for the record that I belted out "Roxanne" at a 98% clip. I figured if Reggie Hammond can sing it, so can I.
We jammed well into the night and when it was over, the game was tucked safely away. The rationale of opening the kids' gift early for our own edification is simple. Now when the kids rush down the stairs on Christmas Day, they won't have to wait to set it all up-- it will all be hooked up and ready to rock. So, you see, it wasn't really for us, it was for the kids.
Now, let's see if Jules can let the girls play first.
