Eye Can't Explain

To quote Sol Rosenberg: "My eyes are going crazy!"

Lately, I don't see so good.  About a month ago I got my yearly eye check and my prescription changed a bit and I also got new glasses and contacts.  It took some adjusting at first, especially going from contacts to glasses and vice versa, but it was starting to get better.  Then one day it started getting worse.  I went back to the doc and after another eye exam, my educated, well-respected Dr. Ed Peters said, "Yeah.  You're eyes are jacked up."*  What?  What does that mean?  Am I turning into Mary Ingalls, on my way to going blind?  No.  What happened was I had a slight eye infection during the exam which skewed my actual vision.

So, I got some plugs-- tiny things inserted into my tear ducts to help keep my eyes from getting dry.  That's what caused the infection-- I took a contact out too quickly from a dry eye and scratched it.  I also got strict instructions not to use contacts for 10 days until a follow-up appointment.  Now, if you're a loyal News 10 viewer (and I know you are) you may have noticed I was not wearing my glasses last night.  That's because my eyes got so out of whack yesterday, my vision was better without my new glasses.  Not just better-- near perfect.  I have a weak prescription to begin with, but this was really weird.  I could have never seen the teleprompter two months ago without any help, but last night I had zero trouble.

I called Pete today and expected to hear another frat boy response to my eye problem.  But he was all over it.  My first eye test may have also been skewed and when I come back, my drops and no contact use should provide accurate results and he'll make sure everything gets fixed with my frames and contacts.  Nice.  Not just an average golfer, but a great doctor.

I also tried on my old glasses and new glasses today to find I was better off without either.  Until this evening, when I put my glasses on to find they worked again.  This may never end.

*Dr. Peters, who is a friend of mine, is cool, which accounts for the slang.  He has great name brand frames that are way over-priced, but maybe you can talk him down on the price.  If that doesn't work, talk to Dar.  She'll straighten him out.  It's called Avery Vision Center in St. Johns-- look it up.
