Old time radio is pretty cool-- sound effects, live music and cigarette commercials. It's tough to re-create these days, with all the technology and tight budgets. But you have a chance to check that out this Friday at Lansing Community College's Dart Auditorium at 7 p.m. which is right after the Silver Bells in the City festivities.
Dave Downing of LCC's WLNZ Radio 89.7 has again whipped together a production of a radio play that you would have heard in the 40's. He and his staff are pretty amazing at how they do it and how it comes out. I know because I've been a part of two of them and they are a ton of fun. This year we are again doing "It's a Wonderful Life." Other than myself as George Bailey, you can hear Deb Hart as Mary, plus David Andrews, A.J. Hilton, Dave "Mad Dog" DeMarco, Jack Robbins, Bob Every, Jim Fordyce and whole bunch more people acting in this play. Like I said, you can actually watch it in person and see the sound effects happen and enjoy the band playing the live music and just see how all the actors shift around to all the microphones on stage. Or listen on 89.7 WLNZ as you head home from Silver Bells.
