Guys in the newsroom have been carrying on a "Ghostbusters" theme lately and it's spawned all kinds of shenanigans in and out of newscasts. I thought I'd share some of the best clips from the movie, starting with the original trailer.
Some of the more interesting things I found out about the movie recently was that the original script Dan Aykroyd wrote included an outer space adventure, but eventual director Ivan Reitman told him to scale it way down-- a complete overhaul. Originally, Aykroyd planned for fellow SNL alums John Belushi and Eddie Murphy to be included in the cast as well as John Candy. Murphy couldn't because he was filming "Beverly Hills Cop" and Belushi was a little occupied being dead. If Murphy was in it, the character of Winston would have been introduced way earlier in the film and he would have been part of the hotel scene below.
John Candy also had a scheduling conflict. He was going to play Louis Tully, the role that eventually went to Rick Moranis. They turned his part into a "geeky guy" and it worked perfectly. Especially when he rolls through this next completely ludicrous monologue about Gozer while believing he is the Keymaster Vince Clortho.
While we're at it-- why not a little love for "Ghostbusters 2?"
And of course the best part of the sequel... the theme song by one Bobby Brown. "On Our Own" was my favorite song forever. I still have it on cassette, but keep that between us. Although, I didn't remember how bad this video actually is. What's with the b-list celebrities who have nothing to do with the movie, who just start dancing? Lori Singer, Sally Kellerman, Iman, Jane Curtain and a few others I don't recognize. Wow.
