Team Macias is the remnants of the former FOX 47 team that won a regular season title two years ago and made it to the championship game in the playoffs last year. All that is left is adman/pitcher Michael Macias, former assignment editor/third baseman Mike Price, and two superstar sisters who used to play for LCC. If we won, we'd finish two games ahead of them and lock up a decent seed for the playoffs.
As for the game, let's just say, thank God there was no official scorer. At shortstop, I alone would have been charged with at least 4 errors. I think our third baseman Lauren Zakalik was the only infielder who didn't make an error-- and the rest of us made at least two! We weren't exactly pictue perfect in the outfield either. Combine the errors with a team with speed and it's a recipe for disaster. And it was, as we fell 15-7. Any chances of big innings were foiled by great plays by their fielders. Their shortstop made a ridiculous grab in the first to save a run, and their infield didn't make mistakes as we pretty much gave them infield practice all game.
It's now desperation time for the WILX softball team. The playoffs start this week and we play Mid-Michigan MRI, a team that mercied us earlier in the year 13-3. Three of our key players weren't there that game so hopefully we can get some revenge. If we win that one at 7:20 we play again at 9:30. But, with our confidence again shaky it's time for a Saturday practice. Hopefully, I'll ahve some good news to pass along next week and a preview of next week-- not next season.
