I Kissed a Girl

Before you go telling my wife, let me explain.

"I Kissed a Girl" by Katy Perry.  Not since 50's "Candy Shop" has my soon-to-be 8-year old's singing along to a song on the radio worried me so much.  Tonight on our way back from gymnastics I kept looking over wondering if she was getting the meaning of the lyrics.

"It felt so wrong.  It felt so right."

It felt mostly wrong to me.  Before kids, I would be your classic guy shooting the goofy smile to a buddy when that song came on.  Now I have kids.

"I kissed a girl and I liked it."

With MTV's "The Hills" yet to come, I'm sure I'll be wishing for this dilemma in a few years.  Here's the song, btw, in case you haven't heard it.

Did you take the opportunity to ask your daughter if she knew what the lyrics meant? If not, she may be asking you soon... On a lighter note, my 14 year old daughter originally thought the Brad Paisley song "Ticks" was about a man and his dog. And when my nephew was 4 (he's 17 now), he used to go around singing "all that she wants is another baby" from the from the Ace of Base song...it used to drive my sister nuts!
