That's our hero on the right, former WILX Sports Anchor Ben Holden.
For the record, I never for one moment wanted the Pittsburgh Penguins to beat my beloved Red Wings Wednesday night. Mostly because I hate the image of reporter Jamie Edmonds politely yelling in her Pens jersey as her team scores. When it comes to hockey fans, Jamie's a ninny. Dedicated and knowledgeable, but a ninny. Anywho, because the series is now guaranteed a fifth game, my old co-worker and mentor Ben Holden is guaranteed a job as an announcer for the Stanley Cup Finals. Benno was hired to work Games 5 and 7 (if necessary) for ESPN on its international broadcasts as a rink-side reporter working with the team of Dave Strader and Joe Micheletti. That means pregame-game analysis, in-game reports, and intermission and post-game interviews. He's already been doing college hockey play-by-play for Comcast, ESPN, ESPNU and CStv. He was a finalist for NHL's Phoenix Coyotes job last year and should be in the mix for a number of pro and semi-pro gigs this year. And of course, leave it to a guy he covered here at Michigan State to seal the deal for him Wednesday night. As his text read to me: Adam Friggin' Hall!
So, let's root for the Wings in 7. It might kill me before it's over, but I hope that's what happens.
