I don't want to be that guy who says, "as we first told you..." or "we were first on the scene..." or "we're number oooone."
But, after a big night for the station at the Michigan Association of Broadcasters Awards banquet, I've got to give some shoutouts. Reporter Lauren Zakalik-- two Best Awards for her work on the Bath School Bombing and breaking news after the Williamston Tornado. Beth Shayne, who has become one of the best reporters I've ever seen in Lansing, a Merit Award for News Reporter. Brian Hirten (pictured with Beth and Lauren) had his photojournalist work recognized as the best in Market 3 (which is pretty much Lansing stations and Northern Michigan stations like 9 & 10 news). We swept the weather category with Andy Pro winning for best weathercast and Darrin Rockcole a merit award. We also won for community service and a weather promo. It all added up to a "Station of the Year" distinction. News 10 rocks!
OK, maybe I am that guy. But hey, at least I can admit I had absolutely nothing to do with any of these awards. Not sure if that factored in with the judges.
