Snowfall....What a difference a year makes
Northern Michigan weather can hardly be labeled as typical, as the past several months have proven. The cold of last winter held well into the spring and summer of 2009. However, autumn began a flip flop period with alternating months of above and below normal temperatures. September and November 2009 ended up with above normal average temperatures across much of Northern Michigan, while October and December 2009 ended the month with below normal average temperatures. So far this January has trended mild with above average temperatures and below normal snowfall, but there is still a week left in the month and almost anything can happen. So once again, Northern Michigan weather can hardly be labeled as typical, as comparing this year’s snowfall to last year will show. The chart below compares snowfall to date this season, to one year ago for several Northern Michigan locations.
