Fall Color Report 10/3/08

What was a slow start to the fall colors has moved quickly now up north. The best color is the west end of the Upper Peninsula. Color is 80 to 100% and at peak. Lots of red,yellow,and orange. The east end of the Upper Peninsula is from 50 to 75% color. Best viewing is Indian Lake State park in Manistique, J.W. Wells State Park in Cedar River, and at Muskallonge State Park in Newberry. Peak is expected next week.

Northwest Lower has fair to good color with 20 to 40% reported in Frankfort,Manistee, and Traverse City. The Northeast Lower has good color with upto 70% reported in Onaway State Park with brilliant reds and oranges. Cheboygan, Harrisville, Mackinaw City, and Rose City have 20 to 35% color. Peak color is expected in about 10 days.

Central Lower report 5 to as much as 25% color. Grand Rapids has 5 to 20% color. The southern parts have good spotty color and not likely to reach peak for a couple more weeks
