The abundance of precipitation this winter has helped to boost Lake Michihgan/Huron water levels. Even though the first part of the year usually sees a decline in water levels this winter produced a rise in the level 139% of average for February alone. The precipitation in the basin has been above normal for the past three months and average over the past year. The outflow from the lake was below average.While the lake levels were still below last year at this time, it is higher than the record low levels set last year. It was 6" below its February 2007 levels, but is projected to reach its 2007 levels by June. The lake is forecasted to be 6 to 12 inches above its record lows,but 19 to 23 inches below its normal levels over the next 6 months.
