Normally I don't get much interested in the men's Big Ten basketball tournament. It has always seemed like more needless games prior to the NCAA tournament pairings show on Sunday and it has always watered down the regular season. But it seems different this year.
There are six good teams and sometimes more and getting them to a neutral site in Chicago will make the game interesting, especially the final three days. Your guess is as good as mine as to who can win it all Sunday before the pairings show on March 17th but Michigan State, while good, doesn't have a lot of depth for such a grueling haul.
The home court influence to me detracts from basketball through much of the regular season but the post season tournaments are played on neutral sites and that removes all of the influence on visiting players and the referees. Now let the real games where the players' abilities will really decide who wins and loses. And the NCAA tournament on neutral sites also provides for an incredible wide open show with absolutely no team a lock to even make the Final Four let alone win it all on April 8th.
