Maybe it's just my perception but the women's NCAA basketball tournament needs alteration to gain more attention and popularity. It bucks the men's tournament and that's hard to do-- the men's tournament is one of America's great sporting events.
Around here, the MSU women have prepared for their game Saturday at Maryland against Louisville with virtually no fanfare. Obviously when the MSU men are having another big season with high tournament hopes, they grab the headlines. But the women's tournament fights for space and attention and gets little of it.
I'd do what the Michigan high schools do-- play the girls tournament one week earlier. It would get some more attention with an earlier selection show. As it is MSU will have gone two weeks to the day between getting knocked out of the Big Ten tournament and playing in the NCAA tournament.
