Who Knows About Lions' Draft Pick

Everyone who follows the Detroit Lions probably figures they need help on the offensive line.  Whether they got it with their first round draft pick Thursday night or not remains to be seen. Riley Reiff is hardly a household name in college football although his resume is good from three seasons at Iowa.  He gave up his senior year and at 6-6, 315 pounds, he sure enough has the size.  He's from South Dakota and the Lions hope he can blend into the playing group immediately.  That remains to be seen.  Matt Millen drafted Gosder Cherilus out of Boston College several years ago with a first round pick.  Cherilus is now 27 and still with the team, but he's hardly an all pro lineman.

But the Lions want to improve their running game and protect oft injured quarterback Matt Stafford and they know they need better line play.  They researched Reiff more than anyone else-- 24 of 26 analysts predicted the Lions would draft someone else in the Detroit papers Thursday morning.  Stay tuned.  He'll sure have an opportunity to play if he is good enough.
