I started it on radio Thursday morning. Name the greatest high school teams ever to come out of mid Michigan. St. Johns wrestling the past three years-- state titles in all three-- comes to mind especially in the wake of 8 Red Wings currently or about to begin division one college careers. Five St. Johns' wrestlers signed division one scholarships with Big Ten schools Wednesday.
Sexton boys basketball of 2011-12-- two state titles with six players now at division one schools or next year with Jalen Hayes signing with Oakland for next season.
Other nominations-- Okemos girls lacrosse 2009-10, a 54-0 record and two straight state titles. The 1972 Holt football team went 8-0 and pitched eight shutouts-- no points given up all season and I remember that team well since it was my second falls season on television. And the last three Lansing Catholic girls golf teams with lopsided state championships recorded.
Certainly they're all among the best area high school teams ever produced from this area.
