The beat goes on for Michigan State first baseman Jeff Holm. He was chosen in the 12th round Tuesday of the major league amateur draft by the Detroit Tigers. Holm is from St. Charles, Illinois and he has now completed his eligibility. He was named Big Ten player of the year, only the second Spartan to be so honored. He was named MSU's MVP after hitting .376 and leading the Big Ten with 61 runs batted in.
In college he hit the ball hard, with an aluminum bat of course, but maybe he can transform those line drives with wooden bats in the pros. If he signs right away he might even get sent to the West Michigan White Caps and then local fans can see him play the Lugnuts in Lansing. It's hard to imagine an athlete going through his senior year with as many things going his way as Jeff Holm has found thus far this year.
