I thought the season turned last August when Chris Allen was dismissed from the Michigan State basketball team for good. I knew he'd be a significant loss. And then Korie Lucious was given the boot and that was two significant players who wouldn't be available down the stretch. It removed scoring and guard quality and well you know the rest of the story.
What about next season? Tom Izzo wants to think about a lot of issues he has to deal with-- he'll miss Kalin Lucas and his scoring of course and the expectations won't be nearly as ridiculous as the media made them out to be this winter. All of the returning players have to get significantly better, in my judgment and that includes Draymond Green who is clearly the best player back. Who knows if the inexperienced guys will come around quickly or not.
MSU finished 19-15 and no Izzo team has lost that many since his first team 15 years ago. The Big Ten won't be overwhelming next winter so maybe the Spartans will improve-- but they sure have some scoring issues to deal with in my book.
