Funerals aren't fun right? Fortunately I have not attended many lately. Until Wednesday at 10am at East Lansing's All Saints Episcopal Church. It seats about 300 and 600 jammed in on two levels with three video screens in the basement to say good bye at a memorial gathering for R. D. Dan Musser, Jr. He is chairman of Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island. A mere six Episcopal priests officiated and the homilist was from Mackinac Island-- and I thought he was good. With communion it was an hour service and well done.
They came from all over the country and some overseas to pay tribute. Musser owned Grand Hotel since 1979 and was a part of it in some capacity for 61 years. He would have been 81 in two weeks. He died at 3:30am Saturday in Lansing of congestive heart failure.
His ashes will be buried this coming hotel season, #126 for Grand Hotel, on Mackinac Island later this summer. If your life's success is determined by the size of your funeral (how does the saying go?) then he gets a high five and A plus because two governors were there, Snyder and Blanchard and many more dignitaries to be sure.
