Carlton Valentine was busy working out Wednesday at the Michigan Athletic Club with a high school basketball player from Haslett. The Sexton High boys coach is busy working with many players during the summer months, but his world changes early Thursday. Valentine flies to Washington D. C. where he is one of eight high school coaches taking part in the NIKE elite camp.
The U. S. Olympic team will also be on hand and it's three days of basketball fun. Valentine is from Washington D. C. where he starred in high school at DeMatha. He gets to go to the White House for a visit on Sunday night with the rest of the NIKE group, where he has visited only once previously.
Valentine has become the premier coach in the area at least in notoriety because of Sexton's two consecutive class B state titles. The hits just keep on coming in post season honors and he thinks if his next team puts some chemistry together it can contend for another state title. Even though three division one players graduated last month.
