Unreal Sports Week End For Preps

Geoff Kimmerly, then of the Lansing State Journal, called it "Prepapalooza."  It's a fitting name for the first Saturday in june-- when all eight spring high school sports are active in some way in state tournament competition.  The finals are being held in boys and girls track and field and in girls tennis.  The finals in golf, soccer, baseball and softball, end the school year on June 16th.  And next week end it's very busy too.

There's no way to cover it all.  Sunday newspapers, the first week of June, are saturated with agate type on the sports pages from all the results that are so numerous in nature.  Girls softball and boys baseball play districts-- heaven help 'em all if rain wipes out the day.  A new rule permits play on Sundays and that could happen this weekend.

And Monday is the  Diamond Classic semi-finals at Cooley Law School Stadium at 5:30 with defending champ Grand Ledge facing Lansing Catholic and Holt playing East Lansing.  Tuesday is the final.  It's a busy time of year well beyond what you get in March Madness and the football playoffs just because of the sheer numbers of sports involved.
