You'd think spring would put a bit of an ease on our scheduling-- not as many games, right? But spring is the time of year when there are special events and this year is no different-- I always enjoy emceeing the CAAC Senior/Scholar awards reception-- and it's Wednesday night in DeWitt with 260 of the top scholar/senior athletes in the league honored-- ten from each of the 26 schools. The parents and administrators are there and those in attendance receive a plaque. The principals and athletic directors are recognized and it's grown in significance every year. It is a very worthwhile evening and this year MSU quarterback Kirk Cousins is the speaker.
Then Thursday I've been asked to emcee the Duffy Daugherty dinner which began in 1992 but until now I was never involved. I like Lloyd Carr a lot for how he conducted himself while coach at Michigan and am happy to be a part of this night because Michigan is sending a great number of people to recognize his career. Tickets are available at DuffyDaugherty.org. It's a good way to begin a football week end since MSU's spring game is Saturday. I've looked forward to this for awhile-- Rockford's Ralph Munger is the high school coach being honored and the Higbie brothers are getting scholarships for their play at DeWitt. And you'll see all the hi def highlights, as we like to say, on the news each night on channel ten.
