Tough Year Ends For MSU

Suzy Merchant can't be happy but she's probably not totally surprised by the way the season ended for MSU's women's basketball team.  Losses to Purdue in the Big Ten tournament and to Louisville Saturday in the first game of the NCAA tournament.  And MSU looked out of synch in both games.

Suzy wants and needs more senior leadership next winter and yet the seniors she loses have talent and will need to be replaced-- Porsche Poole, Taylor Alton and Lykendra Johnson.  At times, each of them contributed well en route to the 20 victories.  But MSU was woefully inconsistent for much of the winter.

Madison Williams should play next winter after she missed all of this season by injury-- but now she has missed much of two years and who knows what her game will be like.  East Lansing's Klarissa Bell came on toward the end of this her sophomore season-- and she'll need to continue to improve for the Spartans to be better next time around.  It's no sure thing either way.
