Tough Day For Girls Golf Tourney

With a few minutes available Friday I trudged around the division four girls state golf tournament which began at MSU's Akers West course.  It's a tough track to begin with and then you throw in a little drizzle, wind and 49 degree temperatures and the chances of good scores are limited.

I went a few holes thinking no one else would ever play on a day like this unless you had to do it-- and these 15 teams had to do it and the two time defending state champ Lansing Catholic Cougars are well on their way to another crown with a 37 stroke lead with 18 holes to go.

Amazing that Danielle Crilley and Jacqueline Setas each shot 78 in such conditions and all of the players were bundled up like it was winter.  It's too bad titles have to be decided in such conditions but there are not many other options.

People read the scores in the paper and think these girls are no good at golf-- quite the contrary I saw some terrific shots Friday regardless of what the weather would have been like.
