DeWitt's Jordyn Wieber is becoming more and more known -- locally and elsewhere. the 16-year old high school junior is now a world all around gymnastics champion besides being the U. S. women's national champ which she won last month in Minneapolis. She's still in Tokyo for a few days before returning home next week.
Jordyn is one of four kids-- her brother Ryan is the DeWitt High School senior star quarterback-- his team is 7-0 heading into Friday night's home finale against Portland. Ryan will attend CMU as a general student next fall and his sports career will end with his high school exploits. The family has a 12-year old daughter who plays soccer and a 23-year old med school student at Michigan State. And they all hope to go to London next summer for the Olympic games. Jordyn must yet make the 5-member U. S. team. The trials are in June in San Jose, but she seems to be a pretty good contender wouldn't you say?
Her notoriety is only going to grow, but she is humble and an amazing talent and she can obviously perform under pressure. The key will be to stay healthy-- and she has missed some previous competitions due to injuries. She is a good interview and a good personality and she is obviously a story to watch of note in mid Michigan in 2012-- and she already is this year right?
