The record is not good-- 6-13-3. But Michigan State's hockey team I do not believe is as bad as that record might indicate. I watched the Notre Dame series in Munn Arena over the weekend. And while I do not believe Notre Dame is worthy of being ranked second in the nation, the Irish are good and they are now ranked fourth after a split.
The Spartans can build around freshman goalie Jake Hildebrand. He is good in the line of previous good MSU goalies. Scoring will be an issue the remainder of the season. But if MSU can get off to a decent start in these games it can win. I have MSU finishing 9-5 in the final 14 games and at that point can it win a first round CCHA series on the road? At this point who knows. Michigan has as many issues as the Spartans have these days. MSU needs to at least split the home and home this weekend with Ferris State, also a decent team who shut the Spartans out two weeks ago 3-0 in Big Rapids.
