It's easy for me to tell that coaches of schools who don't get high recruiting rankings in football get a bit defensive. On signing day the 124 division one coaches across American generally hold a news conference to describe the players they officially signed earlier in the day. No one ever had a bad recruiting year-- that doesn't sell tickets.
Michigan's Brady Hoke says he doesn't believe in the rankings though Michigan has a top five class again this year, generally speaking. Michigan State is in the mid 30s by the various services and Mark Dantonio is singing the praises of his 18 signees and always seems to say that the difference between heralded players and others isn't always very much. And so it goes.
Dantonio says it's how a class finishes not how it begins. And he cites seven members of MSU's 2007 class now in the NFL. Dantonio adds further if you sign 25 players you had a lot of upper classmen leave. This all can be spun in a variety of ways.
