Former Michigan basketball star Robert Tractor Traylor was found dead in San Juan, Puerto Rico Wednesday at the age of 34. Basketball was his life-- even though he played 7 1/2 years in the NBA he wasn't about to give it up and he was playing for a team in Puerto Rico. He had heart issues and he was a large man from his state title days at Detroit Murray Wright High School where he led the Pilots to a class A crown. Traylor was a good player at Michigan and the 6th pick in the 1998 NBA draft. He bounced around the league but he played and made some money.
Traylor's heart apparently gave out-- no foul play is suspected. He was recruited by Michigan State and others but he was a Wolverine several years after the departue of the Fab Five. He was a very graceful player, I thought, for someone who carried the size he had to deal with and I'm amazed his body held up as long as it did as a pro. But it gave out this week.
