The football season for me begins earnest one week from Thursday, nine days from now. Eight college games are set for Thursday night August 29th, the same night high school football begins and two Big Ten teams are in action. UNLV is at Minnesota and Indiana State is at Indiana, both on divided Big Ten Network feeds. It will be a wild night covering all of those opening high school games and airing them on the inaugural Sports Blitz and then tired, at home around midnight, it will be great to check up on the college action.
There are college games through the weekend after that-- eight on Friday, including Western Michigan at Michigan State, many more Saturday, a few more Sunday and even Labor Day evening there is a college game. So it is an elongated start to the prep and college seasons, all around Labor Day, a true sign that summer will have ended.
