While most of the other high school baseball coaches in the area are relatively new in their jobs, Pat O'Keefe just keeps trucking on as head coach at Grand Ledge. This is season number 45 and he has no end in sight. He is second all time in career wins with 1,079 heading into Saturday's home opening doubleheader at 10am against Traverse City Central. Grand Ledge is 4-0 and ranked 3rd in the first division one poll in the state.
O'Keefe has veteran coach Mike Rademacher back with him but pitching coach Lynn VanderSteen has finally moved out of the area. Paul Davison, a former Grand Ledge player, has joined the staff. Grand Ledge has another full JV and freshmen squad and the pipeline of talent just continues. Grand Ledge is picked to finish second in the CAAC Blue behind Holt this spring but I'll believe that when I see it. The Comets lost a number of key players who helped the school go 74-4 the past two seasons, but six seniors are on this year's roster and they'll get better as the spring moves along. It appears to me to be the same old same old for the area's gold standard high school program, Grand Ledge baseball.
