Michigan State's announcement of starters offered no surprises to me whatsoever for Friday's game against Western Michigan. What is more noteworthy to me is what the depth chart will look like for the September 21st game at Notre Dame, the Spartans' first major test. Andrew Maxwell figured to start, although I'm still puzzled that he is not a captain after serving as such his junior year. Whatever. Jeremy Langford is no surprise at running back but whether or not MSU runs with the same success it had with Le'Veon Bell obviously remains to be seen. If Langford or Riley Bullough struggle to run in the first three games it won't be easy at Notre Dame for sure. Connor Cook is due to play some against Western Michigan, a game the Spartans should win easily. And I figure Cook will see plenty of playing time through the course of the fall too.
