It’s no surprise to me that John Beilein has a contract adjustment. I wasn't sure he'd ever make it at Michigan after his slow start. But athletic director David Brandon beefed up Crisler Arena to Crisler Centre and the tide started to turn. Michigan had good fortune in the NCAA tournament and made it to the championship game. Beilein is still more than $1 million a year behind Michigan State's Tom Izzo, but he makes a lot more than any Michigan basketball coach before him ever made.
He gets $2.45 million per year and that figure will go up, as his six years under his new deal come and go. Beilein is likeable and with the school's brand name, it figures that he'll have competitive teams in the years ahead. He just built a summer home in the Petoskey area. Why would he leave for somewhere else? He didn't get fired at Michigan and he survived Brandon who has rewarded him, so his future is a lot brighter today than it was five years ago.
