What's the big story in sports around these parts next week? Michigan vs. Michigan State or the Detroit Tigers in the ALCS? Of course we don't know if the Tigers will be there. If they are then statewide it's probably a bigger story since the Spartans and Wolverines each have a pair of losses.
But MSU vs. Michigan is big from the standpoint that Michigan is ranked and wants to end its four game losing streak in the series. It's Denard Robinson and the rest of his senior teammates' final chance to win in the rivalry. Next year in East Lansing Michigan has a new quarterback and Andrew Maxwell likely returns with a year of experience for Michigan State.
The Spartans almost have to win against the Wolverines to have a realistic shot at the Big Ten title game. And even if MSU wins the game the following Saturday at Wisconsin won't be easy either. MSU has struggled all year offensively and so most people, I would think, at the moment figure the Wolverines will be favorites in Ann Arbor. They're going to be pretty glum and frustrated if they let this match up finally get away.
