Never An Off Season in Basketball

Michigan State's men's basketball team is a month away from its opener in Germany against Connecticut and the Spartans, as usual, are all fired up about a big year.  It's a bit different-- when was the last time Indiana and Michigan were ranked ahead of MSU in the pre season polls?  But that's the story heading into the season and we'll see if the Spartans are eventually ahead of those two or not.

Starters-- how about Nix, Appling, Payne and Dawsen for sure-- the other wing job is up for grabs.  Look out for Sexton freshman Denzel Valentine who made waves in the summer time.  Travis Trice is around and as usual there is plenty of hype for the oft injured Russell Byrd.  Derrick Nix and Byrd are co captains and Nix won't miss any games for his legal issues from last spring.

It's Tom Izzo's 18th season and it was no surprise Tuesday when he told an assembled media throng he is excited about the prospects ahead.
