Wow! Justin Verlander, what a day he had Friday! No basketball team can feel as good as he should. If money can buy happiness he should be grinning ear to ear right? The Detroit Tigers' ace pitcher has a new 7-year deal worth $180 million and at least $140 million of it is guaranteed. Who knows if he'll still be the pitcher we currently know by the 2020 season, but that's his deal. He is the highest paid pitcher in baseball and you just wonder how much higher some of these salaries can go. Verlander is a power pitcher without arm problems, yet anyway, and that's a key to the Tigers taking a risk on paying him so well. Free agency has been spectacular for pro athletes and Verlander is in the right era to cash in on his talent. He will at least be cold Monday when he is due to start the regular season opener against the Minnesota Twins in what is expected to be sub freezing conditions. But, he should be warmed by the day he had on Friday.
