Michigan State's Forest Akers West Course will be a good test for next week's Michigan women's amateur golf championship. Some 80-85 players will take part and they'll lay 36 holes of stroke play and cut to the low 32 for match play the remainder of the week. The final match is set for 1pm next Friday. Among those entered is Jacqueline Setas of Lansing Catholic High School and she is a red hot recruit. MSU coach Stacy Slobodnik Stoll tees off at 8am next Monday in her first round and she's fresh from winning the Michigan Mid Amateur.
Akers West has survived the summer heat well thus far and this is a good tournament and clearly the best amateurs in the state will be in town. Other locals will be involved but those two among the noteworthy entrants. To stimulate attendance Akers is giving a free 9-hole twilight round to the first 300 spectators to attend on Wednesday.
